01The problem
Order data in the ERP, repair work everywhere else
Repair work touches a lot of information: what came in, which order it belongs to, what was found, and what was done.
When the order information lives in an ERP like NetSuite but the repair process runs on paper, email, or spreadsheets, people end up looking up order details in one place and retyping them in another, asking around for status, and assembling documents by hand. Every retyped detail is a chance for an error.
02What I built
One application for the repair workflow
A desktop application that manages repair work through its workflow, uses order information from NetSuite, and produces PDF documents directly from the repair record.
- 01
Repair workflows
Each repair moves through defined stages, so its status is clear without asking around.
- 02
NetSuite order information
Order details come from the ERP through an integration, rather than being retyped.
- 03
PDF generation
Documents are generated from the information already in the system, consistently formatted every time.
03How it works
From order to finished paperwork
A simplified view of how information moves through the system.
- Source
NetSuite
Order information already lives in the company’s ERP.
- Workflow
Repair management application
The desktop application brings in the order information and tracks each repair through its workflow.
Order informationPulled from NetSuite, not retyped.Repair recordMoves through each workflow stage. - Output
Generated documents
PDF documents are produced from the repair record and its order information.
Workflow stage names in the illustration at the top of this page are representative.
04Why it matters
What this kind of integration changes
The point of connecting a workflow tool to the ERP is simple: enter information once, and let it flow to everywhere it’s needed.
One source of order data
The ERP stays the system of record. The repair tool reads from it instead of keeping a second copy by hand.
Status you can see
A defined workflow means anyone can see where a repair stands.
Consistent paperwork
Generated documents look the same every time and carry the right details.
05For your business
If your ERP can’t reach the shop floor
Many companies run a solid ERP but still handle a core process, such as repairs, service, inspections, or returns, outside of it.
A focused application connected to the ERP can close that gap without replacing anything that already works. If that sounds like your situation, I’d be glad to talk it through.
